About
Andrea Martin is a Brooklyn-based artist. She is self-taught and her work has always been connected to the environments where she spends time. While living in Provincetown, MA in the early nineties, Andrea discovered her visual palette in response to the ocean, the forest, the boats, and the sky. She is largely inspired by color, texture, language, decorative patterns, and nature.
Each unique micro-collages contains original mixed media tiles cut from larger work. Andrea crafts her pieces using shredded letters and pages of old books, transfer images, ink, paint, found materials, and other papers.
Her work is intended to inspire a moment of connection, the desire to move toward and look closely at something small, yet layered and beautiful—delivering the viewer into deeper sacred presence and curiosity. Andrea has always wanted to experiment with blowing up her tiny creations. Her large prints are that experiment.

Creativity is sacred, and it is not sacred. What we make matters enormously, and it doesn’t matter at all. We toil alone, and we are accompanied by spirits. – Elizabeth Gilbert
